Description

Mill Cottage, located at Scroggs Mill, is an 18th-century corn mill, likely built around 1755, which was raised and remodeled in the first half of the 19th century. In the 1980s, it was converted into a house and garage while retaining much of its interior machinery. Adjacent to it is a detached single-storey cottage, built in the late 18th or early 19th century, which was renovated around 1980 and had an additional bay added. Both structures are constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings.

The mill features sash windows with a 4-pane glazing pattern and slate roofs. The 18th-century openings have chamfered reveals, although some have been blocked. The 19th-century work includes stugged red ashlar dressings, with some 20th-century alterations. The mill has a rectangular plan and is built against a steep bank. The north end wall has an ashlar marking for a wheel mounting, and there is a gabled loft opening to the west with a forestair. The garage is located at the south end, and there is an axial stack.

The cottage is whitewashed with painted margins, and the additional bay is rubble-faced. It has straight skews and end stacks, although the north elevation has been altered.
