Description
Halldykes is a two-storey, five-bay house, likely built around 1720, as indicated by an indistinct date inscribed on the cill above the porch. The building has a lean-to on the west side at basement level and features harled walls with painted and chamfered ashlar margins. Originally, it had a T-plan with a re-entrant angle at the rear, which has since been filled in.
The south elevation includes a 19th-century porch that is flat-roofed, shallow, and made of corniced and rusticated ashlar, with a modern door. The windows on the east flank were inserted in the 19th century, while the ground floor windows were formerly barred. Most of the sash windows are made of plate glass, and the outer bays are slightly wider than the others. The eaves have a cornice, and there are margined and corniced end stacks, with the eastern stack now rendered. The roof, which may have been re-roofed, is covered with graded slates. The rear wing has a single north-facing window featuring a vertical glazing pattern and a rebuilt apex stack.
