Station, Station Square, Lockerbie

The station at Station Square in Lockerbie was opened in 1848 by the Caledonian Railway. It features a long station block with crow-stepped gables and wallhead dormer heads. The layout is roughly symmetrical, consisting of a two-storey central section flanked by single-storey wings. The building is constructed from stone-cleaned whin rubble with contrasting red ashlar dressings and has prominent end and axial stacks. The tall range has a three-bay platform elevation on the east side, with a wide gable to the right and two asymmetrical full-height gabled wings extending to the west. Inside, the station contains a main thoroughfare and a waiting area that features a cast-iron bolection-moulded chimneypiece. The long single-storey northern wing is divided into three crow-stepped ranges, with the northernmost range featuring a full-length louvred and slated ridge ventilator.
