Carse, New Abbey

Carse is a farmhouse built in the late 18th or early 19th century. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure with a long single-storey steading range extending from the southwest gable and an altered small rear wing. The building is constructed of rubble, which is whitewashed, with contrasting painted margins, and features ashlar skews.

The farmhouse has a modern central porch on the southeast elevation and sash windows with four-pane glazing. There is a modern brick stack at the southern angle and corniced end stacks. The steading range has three doors facing northwest, above a cobbled pavement; one door provides access to the house, while the others have sliding doors. There is a loft door on the southwest gable, and the southeast wall is blank. The roofs of both the farmhouse and steading are covered with graded slates.
