Kindar House, New Abbey

Kindar House is an early 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay house with a raised basement. It is constructed from cherry-caulked white granite blocks, featuring contrasting red ashlar dressings, raised quoins, and long and short worked door and window dressings. The east elevation is symmetrical, showcasing a deeply recessed panelled door with columned jambs and an ogee traceried fanlight, which is accessed by splayed steps with plain handrails. Above the door, there is a tripartite window on the first floor, with blind outer lights and an ogival-headed inner light, flanked by pointed lights. The outer bays have sash windows, with four panes on the ground floor and twelve panes on the first floor. Additional architectural details include a base course, an eaves and lintel band, and a cornice. The house features symmetrically placed margined stacks and a piended slate roof, along with gabled rear wings and outbuildings.
