Description
Bona Vista is an early 19th-century, two-storey house with an attic over a raised basement, featuring a three-bay symmetrical layout and a lean-to stair projection at the rear. The exterior has harled walls accented with droved and painted ashlar dressings, and the windows are margined with projecting cills.
The west elevation is symmetrical, showcasing a central entrance door with six panels, which is architraved and corniced. This deep-set door is flanked by fluted pilasters and topped with a four-pane fanlight. Access to the door is via a stone stair with harled sides, complemented by cast-iron balusters and wrought-iron handrails. The fenestration is regular across the basement, principal floor, and first floor.
The north elevation is also symmetrical, featuring a two-bay gable with windows positioned in the right and left bays at the principal floor only. The east elevation is symmetrical and regularly fenestrated, with a lean-to projection at the center. The south elevation is a blank gable end.
The windows are timber sash and case, primarily four-pane, with a twelve-pane window centered at the rear elevation and a sixteen-pane window at the basement. The roof is covered in purple-grey slate, with a cast-iron downpipe and hopper. It features three-light piend-roofed, slate-hung canted timber dormers on the west pitch, along with four-pane timber sash and case windows that include plate glass sidelights and wrought-iron finials at the ridges. The house has tall harled apex stacks with cavetto-moulded concrete copes and battered, banded circular red cans, as well as ashlar skew copes.
The boundary walls include a rubble retaining wall topped with a droved ashlar cope facing the street, and a flagged basement area with symmetrically arranged stone steps. There is also a harled wall with a concrete cope and a timber gate leading to the rear garden.
