Description
18th century, with later alterations. L-plan terrace on corner site comprising 2-storey and attic 3-bay symmetrical house (No 8) at corner to S, with 2-storey 2-bay asymmetrical terraced house (No 1) projecting at right angle to W and 2-storey and attic 4-bay asymmetrical tenement adjoining to N. Harl-pointed rubble principal elevation to no 8 with harled gable end; harled walls to adjoining buildings with cement margins at nos 4-6.
S (QUEEN?S LANE) ELEVATION: symmetrical elevation of no 8 to left comprising modern door with plate glass fanlight centred at ground with regular fenestration in flanking bays and at 1st floor. Asymmetrical elevation of nos 4-6 at right comprising windows at ground, 1st floor, and breaking eaves in bay to outer left; blank bay to left of centre, window at ground and breaking eaves in bay to right of centre; timber door with fanlight at ground in bay to outer right.
W (QUEEN?S PLACE) ELEVATION: 2-bay gable end of no 8 at right with windows at ground, 1st floor, and attic in bay to left. 2-bay elevation of no 1 extending to left comprising modern door at ground in bay to right with narrow window adjacent to right.
Timber sash and case windows; 4-pane at no 8 Queen?s Lane and 1 Queen?s Place; 12-pane at nos 4-6 Queen?s Lane. Purple-grey slate roofs with cast-iron gutters and downpipes; metal-clad box dormers breaking eaves at nos 4-6 Queen?s Lane. Harled and harl-pointed apex and ridge stacks (tall and broad to Queen?s Place gable) coped, with circular cans; cement-rendered skew copes.
GATEPIERS: harled gatepiers adjoining N gable; pyramidal droved ashlar caps and vertically-boarded timber gate with slatted upper.
