Description

Sea Winds, located at 45 Commercial Street in Lerwick, is a town house dating from around 1760. This two-storey building with an attic features an asymmetrical three-bay design and includes a shop on the ground floor. The structure has a rectangular plan with flanking closes and a gable facing the street. The walls are primarily cement-rendered and lined, except for the northwest elevation, which is made of harl-pointed rubble. The southeast elevation has margined windows.

On the northeast elevation, which faces Commercial Street, there is a two-bay gable with a painted shopfront on the ground floor. To the left, there is a two-leaf boarded door that leads to a panelled and glazed inner door, while the right bay features a four-pane fixed-light window. A cement cill course runs along the regularly spaced first-floor windows, with a single window located in the gablehead to the left. A single-storey shop is recessed on the left, with a four-pane fixed-light window and an entrance gate to the right.

The southeast elevation is asymmetrical, featuring a modern entrance door in the central bay at ground level, topped with a five-pane fanlight. The first floor has narrow windows in the central and left bays.

The northwest elevation has a centred four-panel timber door at ground level, with a window directly above it. The first floor includes twelve-pane timber sash and case windows in some openings, while modern glazing is used in others. The roof is felt tiled, with stugged sandstone stacks that are capped with decorative circular and octagonal cans, and concrete skew copes.
