Description

Earlier 19th century. 3-storey tenement with single bay, bowed, near symmetrical principal elevation to Commercial Street, and 3-bay asymmetrical elevation to Church Road. Droved ashlar principal elevation, stugged sandstone sides with droved ashlar margins. Base course, string courses at 1st and 2nd floors, lintel course at 2nd floor, eaves cornice and blocking course raised at centre above. Projecting cills to windows.

N (COMMERCIAL STREET) ELEVATION: near symmetrical; 12-pane fixed-light shop window centred at ground, flanking doorways, 4-panel, 2-leaf timber doors with 2-pane fanlight at left, ashlar-infilled to cill height with 6-pane fixed-light at right. Tripartite windows at upper floors, 12-pane timber sash and case window at centre with 4-pane sidelights at 1st floor, modern glazing at 2nd floor. Coped wall with door to close adjoining at right, droved ashlar margins.

E (CHURCH ROAD) ELEVATION: asymmetrical 3-bay elevation, multi-pane fixed-lights with coloured glass (round-arched above) at intermediate levels in centre bay, timber sash and case windows, 12-pane at ground and 4-pane above immediately to right of centre bay, 4-panel door with plate glass fanlight at ground immediately to left of centre bay. Blank elevation in bay at right, blank at 1st floor in bay at left with 4-pane timber sash and case windows at ground and 2nd floors. Adjoining 2-storey, 2-bay rubble building recessed at left, hoppered windows and corrugated asbestos roof.

Grey slate roof, piended and curved over bow. Multi-flue droved ashlar apex stack to S gable and wallhead stack to right at E elevation, both coped with moulded circular cans. Ashlar skew copes.
