Jahara, North Ness, Lerwick

Jahara is an early 19th-century, two-storey house with a concealed basement, featuring three bays. The walls are cement-rendered with droved and painted margins around the windows on the main front.

The east elevation is nearly symmetrical, with the centre and left bays grouped to the left. There is a modern flat-roofed porch in the centre bay at the main floor.

The south elevation has a two-bay gable with a single window at the first floor in the right bay and a chamfered corner on the left.

The west elevation is asymmetrical, with a door centered at the basement and a partially infilled former stair window above. It has regular fenestration in the flanking bays at the basement and main floors, and an enlarged window at the first floor in the right bay. The first floor is mostly blank, except for a small square window to the right of centre.

The north elevation is a blank gable end.

Some plate glass and four-pane timber sash and case windows remain. The roof is covered with purple-grey slate and features a cast-iron gutter and downpipe with a hopper. The apex stacks are cement-rendered with concrete copes and circular cans, along with cement-rendered skew copes.

The boundary walls and gatepiers consist of a cement-rendered and lined rubble wall with a concrete triangular cope to the south. The entrance gate is located at the centre, flanked by stugged and painted gatepiers topped with gabled caps. There is a random rubble boundary wall to the west.
