Albert Buildings, Esplanade, Lerwick

Albert Buildings is a two-storey shed built around 1900, featuring a rectangular plan with 13 bays on the long side and 3 bays on the short side. The walls and roof are clad in corrugated sheet metal, with timber surrounds around the doors and windows, projecting timber cills, and metal hoods above. A modern timber balcony projects from the first floor on the north and west elevations, and there is a timber eaves course.

The south elevation is symmetrical and has a regular arrangement of windows. The east elevation, facing the seafront, has irregularly spaced bays, with vertically-boarded timber doors and plate glass fanlights in the third and penultimate bays on the right, while bays four and five are blank at ground level.

The north elevation is asymmetrical, featuring a blank bay to the right, vertically-boarded timber doors at both ground and first floors to the right of centre, and a matching door at ground level in the left bay with a window above. A flagpole is mounted in the gablehead.

The west elevation has irregularly spaced bays with varied window arrangements. The ground floor features 4-pane timber sash and case windows, while the first floor has 4-pane timber windows with hoppers. The roof is clad in corrugated sheet metal, and the gables have timber barge boards with finials.
