Gutters Hut, North Ness, Lerwick

Gutters Hut, built around 1900, is a two-storey structure with a rectangular plan, featuring 13 bays across 3 sections. It is constructed from a timber frame clad in corrugated iron, resting on a concrete base. The building has timber door and window surrounds with projecting sills. A full-length timber walkway on the first floor is supported by projecting timber joists and features a cast-iron handrail, with open timber stairs at both the east and west elevations.

The north elevation is asymmetrical on the ground floor, showcasing a wide door in the center bay flanked by windows in four bays, along with wide doors in the outer bays. The first floor has a square window in the center bay, with windows in the flanking bays, a wide door to the right, and closely spaced door and window to the left, along with a door in the penultimate bay to the left and blank bays at both ends.

The east elevation features bipartite windows on the ground and first floors in the left bay, while the right bays have regular fenestration, except for a blank ground floor bay on the far right. The south (rear) elevation displays irregular fenestration and includes a lean-to structure at the ground level.

The windows are 6-pane timber hoppered types. The roof is clad in corrugated iron and includes cast-iron gutters and downpipes, with cement-rendered stacks topped with circular cans.
