Description
The Platform Building at Oldmeldrum Station, dating from around 1900, is a single-storey structure with a rectangular plan and overhanging eaves. It features a slightly recessed section in the center and additional flat-roofed bays at either end. The building has a stone base course and is timber-boarded throughout, with an eaves cornice and predominantly regular window arrangement.
On the south elevation, the central section has an 8-light window with a timber door to the right. The advanced bay to the left contains a bipartite window, originally tripartite, with a later timber door and remnants of an associated porch to the left. The advanced bay to the right features a tripartite window with a later timber door to the right, while both outer flat-roofed bays have a single window each.
The north elevation has two bipartite windows in the center section, two windows in each of the advanced bays, and a single window in both outer bays. The west side elevation includes a window to the left and a timber door to the right, while the east side elevation has a window to the left and a timber door to the right.
The building predominantly features 3-pane glazing in timber casement windows, with 2-pane glazing in the flat-roofed sections. The roof is piend-roofed, excluding the flat-roofed end bays, covered with dark grey slates and adorned with ornamental terracotta ridge tiles and finials. A corniced stone stack with an octagonal can is present on the rear pitch.
