Description

Old Farmhouse, located at 10 Cramond Bridge in Edinburgh, dates from the late 19th century and features a two-storey design with an L-plan wing. The building is constructed from stugged, squared, and snecked sandstone, accented with droved red sandstone ashlar dressings and details.

The southeast elevation has three bays, with the central bay protruding and breaking the eaves. It features an unusually panelled timber door, which is offset to the left, framed by a lugged architrave, with a plain frieze and cornice above. There is a narrow window to the left of the door, and an 18-pane stair window aligned above it, topped with a blind panel in an open-pedimented gable. The outer bays have windows arranged in a regular pattern.

On the southwest elevation, there are three bays as well. The central bay is blank at ground level, with a window at the first floor offset to the left. This is flanked by two closely spaced windows in the left bay and another window in the right bay. The first floor features regular fenestration, with the right bay maintaining this pattern.

The northwest elevation includes a single-storey rectangular service wing, which has bipartite and single windows, along with timber doors. It features a cupola with a six-pane fixed light, louvred sides, and a pyramidal slate roof with a finial, as well as a louvred timber gablet.

The northeast elevation showcases a canted bay to the left and a tripartite window at ground level to the right, with a window above it.

The farmhouse predominantly has timber sash and case windows, a graded grey slate roof with overhanging eaves and exposed rafter ends, cast-iron rainwater goods, and chimney stacks breaking the pitches at the southwest and northeast, with a shouldered wallhead stack at the northwest.
