Description
Cramond Old Bridge is a late 15th to early 16th century structure that was rebuilt between 1617 and 1619 and underwent repairs from 1687 to 1691 by Robert Mylne, as well as further repairs in 1761, 1776, and 1854. The bridge is constructed from coursed yellow sandstone with moulded ashlar coping and random rubble sandstone on the flanking walls. It features three shallow pointed arches, with voussoir surrounds above the central and eastern arches. A projecting, chamfered string course steps up over the arches, and there are curved abutments to the east, along with a single weephole to the west. The intermediate piers have pyramidal caps, and the northwest pier has sloped tabling. The west arch is splayed and comprises three chamfered soffit ribs, while the remaining later arches do not have ribs.
