124 Commercial Street in Lerwick is an earlier 19th century building designed as a two-storey and attic structure over a concealed basement, forming an L-plan terrace with a nine-bay asymmetrical elevation facing west towards Commercial Street and a two-bay elevation to the north. The walls are harl-pointed with droved ashlar dressings, and the windows feature projecting cills.

The west elevation presents an asymmetrical arrangement of nine irregularly spaced bays. On the outer left, there is a wide bay, with a shop window to the right and a door to the left at ground level, along with a single window centered above. To the right, five closely spaced bays include a narrow door at ground level and a window on the first floor in the center bay, flanked by doors at ground level with shop windows in the outer bays. The first floor in the bays flanking the center has regular fenestration. To the right, there are two widely spaced bays; the ground floor has a shop door with flanking windows to the left, a door to the right, and a single window at the first floor in the bay to the left, with two closely spaced windows in the bay to the right. The outer right features a wide bay with a single-storey canted timber shopfront projecting at ground level, which has a single window centered above.

The north elevation consists of a two-bay cement-rendered and lined end elevation of the principal front, alongside a three-bay rubble north elevation of the adjoining warehouse to the left.

The east (rear) elevation is asymmetrical and irregularly fenestrated, with an exposed basement; the elevation to the right of center is obscured by the warehouse.

The south elevation is the gable end of the principal elevation and is mostly blank, except for a basement window to the left and ashlar steps adjoining.

The building features timber sash and case windows, with 12 panes on the east and west elevations and 4 panes on the north elevation. The shop windows have plate glass fixed-lights. At ground level, there are six-panel two-leaf timber doors with plate glass fanlights. The roof is covered in purple-grey slate, piended at the northwest corner, and has cast-iron gutters and downpipes. There is a piend-roofed slate-hung canted timber dormer on the north pitch and a three-light slate-hung timber box dormer on the west pitch, flanking the corner. The building is topped with imposing, broad, harl-pointed stugged and droved sandstone multi-flue apex and ridge stacks, which are coped and have circular cans. Ashlar skew copes are complemented by bracketed skewputts.
