Commercial Hotel, 19, 21 Main Street, Auchencairn

The Commercial Hotel, located at 19 and 21 Main Street in Auchencairn, dates back to the late 18th century and was originally an inn. It features a symmetrical front with a central block that is two stories high and has three bays, flanked by single-storey wings. The building is harled with raised painted margins. There are paired central doorways, although the doorway on the right is blocked. Tripartite windows are situated on either side of the doors, with sash and case designs that include plate glass glazing. The first floor and the wings have single light windows, also sash and case, with 12-pane glazing, while the pavilions feature plate glass. The sandstone skews are complemented by a piend-roofed right wing that has sandstone ridges and coped end stacks on the two-storey block. The roofs are covered with slate.
