Holm Park, Ballplay Road, Moffat

Holm Park, located on Ballplay Road in Moffat, was built partly before and partly after 1885. This two-storey building with an attic features an irregular seven-bay front, with central and northern sections recessed. It is constructed from whinstone with ashlar dressings and rusticated quoins. A porch is situated in the re-entrant angle at the north, featuring a round-arched doorway flanked by composite pilasters, a fretwork valence at the eaves, a cast-iron balcony, and incised glass.

The ground and first-floor windows are linked by bas-relief panels, with round heads on the first floor. Most windows are bipartite, except for the second and fifth bays from the south, which have two-storey canted bays and wide barge-boarded gables. The building has deep eaves with fretted valences and piended, platformed slate roofs, along with tall cornice end stacks.

The property is also marked by decorative, channelled sandstone gate-piers, one of which is damaged, topped with segmentally pedimented caps, and complemented by good cast-iron gates.
