Description
St Mary Magdalene's Church and Churchyard in Lochmaben features a quadrangular churchyard that surrounds the site of St Mary Magdalene's church. The churchyard contains many well-sculptured stone monuments from the 17th to 19th centuries, including a monument to Dr James Mounsey of Rammerscales, who died on February 2, 1773, and was a physician to the Empress of Russia. There is also a tall obelisk for the Jardine family, erected around 1843. The churchyard is enclosed by walls built of rubble with ashlar coping, and there is a gate on the east side with corniced square gatepiers, along with a hearse house located at the southwest angle.
