Description
Stepford House is a later 19th century, two-storey villa constructed from snecked whinstone rubble with stucco dressings. The building features an asymmetric, three-bay design with a central entrance. A porch with a round arch is located at the front, stilted to the left, situated in the angle between the advanced right bay and the main body of the house. The porch has a round arch on the front and a stilted arch on the side, supported by engaged Corinthian columns on the right and rear. The frieze, cornice, and blocking course include a semicircular feature in the center. The doorcase is round arched, with a small round-headed window positioned above the door.
To the left, the centered bay at ground level is treated as an entablature of the porch, while a three-light window at the first floor breaks the eaves, topped with a gablet. The window lights are round-headed, with the center light taller than the flanking ones, featuring broad margins. The projecting gabled bay on the right includes a similar ground floor canted bay and a single round-headed window at the first floor. The windows are two-pane sash and case, and the building has stucco quoins and a base course. The low-pitched roof is slated, with prominent eaves and chimney stacks on the gable ends, adorned with cast-iron finials on the left and right bays. Inside, the villa boasts good plasterwork and original grained and gilded doors.
