Description

Peddie & Kinnear architects, 1865-6. Scots Baronial stables

with asymmetrical elevations built on elevated sloping site

around small quadrangular court, 2-storey west range, other

ranges single-storey. Snecked and squared whin rubble with

contrasting red ashlar dressings; angles mostly curved, and

corbelled to square below eaves. West elevation: near-centre

advanced gable with rope-moulded segmental-arched pend and conical-roofed turret in left re-entrant angle; corbel

tables, with bartizan at right linked to dummy parapet: 1st

floor windows break eaves and have pedimented and finialed

dormer heads. Variety of roof levels to other elevations;

near-centre wide segmental-arched east-facing window with

gabled head; south elevation with 3 round-headed ground floor

windows in left gable. Coped, mostly axial or wallhead

stacks; mostly crow-stepped gables to west range - otherwise

straight skews; slate roofs. Stalls mostly removed.
