Description
This is a small, rectangular tower house, likely dating from around 1590, as indicated by a dated panel. It features a conical-roofed turret corbelled over the northwest and southeast angles. The tower was renovated, probably in the 19th century, with the upper parts of the turrets rebuilt. A larger window was inserted on the first floor, and wall-head dormers were added to the north and south sides. The structure is built of rubble with red ashlar dressings and some roll-moulding around the openings. A door is located at the west end of the south wall, positioned below a dated armorial panel bearing the Maxwell family crest. It has small-paned windows, slit openings, crow-stepped gables, coped end stacks, and slate roofs.
Inside, the ground floor is vaulted, and a wheel stair is situated within the angle beside the entrance door. The tower was well maintained in 1984.
