Description
The stables, dating to 1810 or possibly 1816, with later alterations, form a symmetrical and substantial stable block. The design incorporates a three-stage central tower with two-storey, three-bay flanking wings. The structure is rubble-built with ashlar dressings. The east elevation features a segmental-arched pend set within a slightly projecting tower, below a Venetian window. A glazed oculus sits above the window, with what appear to be dovecot flight-holes in the tower flanks. Each wing has a segmental-arched pend in the outer bay; the pend on the left has been blocked and replaced with a 12-pane sash window, while the upper windows are casements with lying-panes. Two modern vehicle openings, with steel lintels, have been inserted into the left wing. The roofs are piended and slate-covered. The west pend is blocked, incorporating two armorial stones, one dated 1725.
