Description
The Irongray Manse is a late 18th-century manse, built in 1797 to designs by John MacCracken of Dumfries. It is a two-storey building with a sunken basement and attic, arranged with a three-bay front. The manse is constructed of rubble stone with ashlar margins, all painted. The east elevation features steps leading to a central panelled front door, which is topped with a decorative fanlight. The ground floor has tripartite windows, while the first floor has four-pane sash windows. There are two flat-roofed dormers with shaped skews. The building has corniced end stacks. Attached to the rear wing are two parallel, single-storey ranges; one with lofts and a segmental-arched cartway. All roofs are covered with graded slates. The property is approached via square gatepiers with flat pyramidal caps, set within curved quadrant walls constructed of ashlar.
