Description

2-4 Upper Adelaide Street is a villa built in the later 19th century. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure featuring classical architectural details. The exterior is made of stugged and snecked cream sandstone with ashlar dressings. Notable features include a base course, a broad string course between the first and second floors, moulded arrises, and ashlar mullioned windows. The eaves are overhanging and bracketed.

On the south elevation, there is an advanced porch located in the re-entrant angle at the center, which includes angle pilasters and an entablature. To the left, there is a bipartite mullioned and transomed window with lead-pane glazing, alongside a panelled door that has glazed upper panels. Above this, there is a window on the first floor. To the left, there is another bipartite window at both the ground and first floors. The outer right features an advanced bay with a full-height bow window that has five lights at both the ground and first floors, breaking the eaves and topped with a shallow conical roof that has a decorative finial.

The west side elevation has two windows at the ground floor and one window at the first floor. The east elevation features two windows at the first floor and has a rectangular-plan conservatory attached. The windows are plate glass sash and case, and the roof is covered with grey slate. The building has corniced sandstone end stacks with moulded cans and retains its original rainwater goods.
