Description
Sanquhar Station and the Stationmaster's House, dated 1850, is an asymmetrical single-storey building designed in the Tudor style. It has a T-plan layout and is constructed from coursed stugged and squared rubble with ashlar dressings.
On the southwest elevation, there is a shallow advanced gable to the right featuring a hood-moulded window, along with a gabled timber porch in the re-entrant angle. To the left of the porch, there are three windows, with the outer two being close-spaced narrow lights. The northeast elevation, which faces the railway track, includes a canted window in the gable on the left and a two-bay range that adjoins on the right; these were formerly connected by a canopy. The stonework below the canopy is painted.
The building features sash windows, most of which retain their original lying-panes, projecting eaves, and wall-head or axial stacks with diamond flues, although two of these have been rebuilt in brick. The roofs are covered with slate. Additionally, there is a timber-built lean-to on the southeast side, which has a valance.
