Description

11 and 13 High Street in Sanquhar are two adjoining narrow two-storey houses, each featuring a shop on the ground floor and a single window on the first floor facing High Street. The buildings are constructed of line-pointed rubble with ashlar margins, and the flank facing St Mary Street is rendered, all painted. They have a single corniced end stack on the east side, while other stacks have been removed, and they are topped with slate roofs. No. 9 dates from the mid-18th century and has 19th-century alterations, including single shop windows on either side of an inner door and a single inscribed cavetto skewputt incorporated into the design. Nos. 11 and 13 are from the mid-19th century and have undergone alterations, featuring a door on the left side leading to a flat above, with modern shop fittings occupying the rest of the ground floor.
