Description
The Nithsdale Hotel consists of two adjoining two-storey, three-bay houses located at 1 and 3 High Street in Sanquhar. Number 1 is an early 19th-century building set back from the street, while Number 3 dates from the mid-18th century and has been altered. The front of Number 3 features three ground floor windows and two first floor windows facing High Street, with a central door that was blocked around 1980 and a modern door located in the west gable. Both buildings are pebble-dashed with painted ashlar margins and have sash windows, mostly with four-pane glazing. They have straight skews, and only the westmost end stack remains. The roofs are covered with slate. Number 1 has a blind central first floor window, with flanking windows that were likely enlarged in the late 19th century, and it features two piended canted dormers.
