Description

A pair of early 19th-century houses located on Maiden Street, Weymouth. Number 39 has a rendered facade, while number 41 exhibits painted brickwork, both topped with a slate mansard roof. Each house has two storeys and an attic. Number 39 features a flat-roofed dormer window with four panes, situated above a prominent, bold, canted oriel with a reeded cornice. It also has a plain sash window. The ground floor of number 39 showcases a large plate-glass display window above a stall board, accompanied by a door on each side. The left door includes a transom light, all beneath a frieze and cornice, interrupted by the skirt of the oriel. Number 41 presents a wide, 20th-century four-pane sash window, alongside a 20th-century door with a plain fanlight within a plain reveal. A gable stack is positioned to the right. The interior of the houses has not been inspected. It is reported that the rear wall of number 39 contains a date stone from 1686 bearing the name Richard Vensont, suggesting a previous building on the site; however, this is attributed to a prior structure.
