Description
The Market House Public House, located at Nos. 35 and 37 Maiden Street in Weymouth, is a public house that incorporates an earlier row house. It dates from the early to mid 19th century, with some mid 19th-century features. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brickwork or rendered, topped with slate roofs.
No. 35 is the later addition, featuring three storeys and a splayed corner. In contrast, No. 37 is smaller and appears to have originally been a house that may have been raised by one storey. The front of No. 37 has three storeys and one window, with 12-pane sash windows in plain reveals on the first and second floors. This is situated above a late 19th-century public house front, which includes pilasters and a bold cornice supported by modelled consoles, along with a large three-light window and a door to the left. The upper window features a full-width sill band and a head moulding beneath the cornice, topped with a blocking course and a coped parapet. A large brick stack is located to the right. The difference in scale between the earlier and later phases of the building is quite noticeable. The interior has not been inspected.
