Description
The Royal Bank of Scotland, located at 26 High Street in Sanquhar, is an earlier 19th-century classical bank building that is set back from the street. It features two storeys with an attic and has five bays. The exterior is finished in painted ashlar, which is channelled at the ground level.
The central entrance consists of a door with a fanlight, framed by a Roman Doric-columned doorcase that has a high parapet. The first-floor windows are set within architraves. There is a band course between the floors, a string course at the first-floor cill level, a cornice, and a blocking course. Most of the windows are 12-pane sashes. The building also has two small dormers, straight skews, and end stacks, all topped with a slate roof.
The bank is enclosed by decorative cast-iron railings that sit on low coping. The rear elevation has three bays and includes a low rear wing.
