School, Queensberry Square, Sanquhar

This building is a school located in Queensberry Square, Sanquhar, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. It features a T-plan layout with simplified late Victorian and Edwardian Baroque detailing. There is a later addition to the southwest that is excluded from the listing, which has mullioned and transomed windows. The school is a single storey with tall pedimented windows on the main elevations, each topped with round key-stoned heads above the main cornice.

The southeast elevation facing Queensberry Square is constructed of grey ashlar, while the rest of the building is made from rubble. It has three bays, with the inner bay protruding and featuring a large window that has both mullions and transoms, while the other windows consist of single lights. The eaves course and main cornice extend across the windows, and the building is topped with a steeply-pitched piended slate roof.

The northeast flank has two bays, and there is a lower rear wing that includes mostly square-headed mullioned windows. A piended porch is located in the re-entrant angle, featuring a segmental-arched door that also faces Queensberry Square, with a straight parapet above it.

The property is enclosed by plain iron gates and has a rubble-built wall surrounding the playground.
