Description
The former school in Lundie, built between 1851 and 1852 and extended in the later 19th century, is a single-storey building with a rectangular plan that was modified to an L-shape by a later addition. An irregular plan was created by a large entrance porch situated in the re-entrant angle. The exterior features stugged coursed and snecked rubble, with random rubble at the rear, and stugged and margined ashlar dressings, topped with a grey slate roof. The south gable has Y-traceried windows, while the west elevation displays a 12-pane sash and case window, with top-hopper multi-pane windows elsewhere. The building has deep eaves at finialled gables, showcasing exposed purlin ends and decorative bargeboards, along with three ridge ventilators and a corniced octagonal stack on the north gable. The cast-iron rainwater goods include some decorative hoppers.
On the south elevation, the left gable originally featured three round-headed windows, though the center window has been partially obscured by the installation of a garage door. There is a moulded cross-shaped arrow-slit ventilator at the gablehead, and a panelled door with a fanlight is located at the flat-roofed entrance porch on the right. A window on the right return has a re-used datestone reading 'AD-AD 1677', and there is a cut-down shouldered wallhead stack at the recessed bay on the far right.
The west elevation has three symmetrically placed windows. The east gable features a stepped tripartite window with a corbelled cill and a roundel ornament in the roof space. The north elevation includes a gable on the right with a lean-to, a window in the roof space, a blank bay on the left, and a gabled dormer.
Inside, the school retains original doors, a boarded dado, ventilator ducts, moulded cornices, and a chimneypiece. Additionally, there is a rubble boundary wall on the west side.
