Description
Kirklands is an earlier 19th century single storey and attic L-plan cottage, which has been made irregular by a later single storey addition at the rear. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with stugged and margined ashlar dressings, while the addition is harled. It features a slate roof. The ground floor has five lying-pane sash and case bipartite windows, with the outer jambes chamfered and rebated on the south elevation. The attic has casement windows, and there are modern windows elsewhere. The south elevation openings have hoodmoulds with label stops. The eaves are deep, showcasing exposed rafter and purlin ends, and there are coped stacks.
On the south elevation, there is a boarded door with a 2-pane fanlight at the center, flanked by bipartite windows. The west elevation has a gable on the right with a bipartite window to the left and a window in the attic space. To the left, there is a lower bay with a window, a rooflight, and a tall stack on the left return gable. A recessed addition extends to the left, featuring a boarded door and a window on the left return gable. The east elevation has a blank gable on the left, while the addition on the right includes a window, a swept roof, and a timber lean-to at the re-entrant angle.
