Description
The E.U. Congregational Church, built in 1864, is a simple, rectangular-plan, three-bay church located on St Mary's Street in Sanquhar. It features a porch on the east gable and a gabled vestry that adjoins the northeast angle. The church is constructed of stugged and squared rubble, with the east gable neatly coursed and painted, and it has ashlar dressings. The square-headed openings are consistent throughout the structure.
On the east elevation, single windows flank the porch, with a central gallery window above. There are plain pinnacles over the angles and apex, and the vestry has bipartite windows with a door located in the re-entrant angle. The west gable has windows flanking the pulpit, with a single window at each level in the bays, featuring small-paned glazing throughout. The church has straight skews and a slate roof, although only the base of the ridge ventilator remains.
Inside, there is a five-sided gallery supported by circular columns, and the pulpit is topped with a simple canopy.
