Description

This is a small railway station building, which included a station master's house and a booking office, and is now a private dwelling. It was built in the mid-19th century and altered subsequently. The building is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings, and has a composition tile roof. It has a rectangular, single-depth plan, with the house to the left and the ticket office to the right. It is two storeys high, with a five-window facade. A prominent moulded gutter cornice runs along the top. The station master's house has symmetrically arranged openings, including a tall central doorway with pilaster jambs, cornice, and an overlight. Above the doorway is a small, rectangular stair window. There are two 12-pane sashes on each floor of the house, with ground floor sashes that have cornices matching the doorway cornice and all windows having plain surrounds. The ticket office to the right has a matching doorway, a matching window, a small 4-pane sash window (for the ticket window), an 8-pane sash above the door, and a 12-pane sash to the right. There are gable chimneys with prominent cornices. The interior has been altered. This is an interesting example of a small country station building.
