Description
Lower Brockholes Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1634 on the porch, although parts of it may be older. It has been enlarged and altered over time. The exterior features white-painted pebble-dash on brick, with black-painted rendered dressings, and a slate roof. The building is arranged in an L-plan, consisting of a three-unit main range with a projecting porch and a crosswing to the right that projects to the rear and slightly overlaps the main range, suggesting it is likely older.
The farmhouse is two storeys high, with the main range having three symmetrical bays and the wing featuring one wide gabled bay that is lower. The main range includes a central two-storey gabled porch with a segmental-pointed outer doorway that has large imposts, a shallower and wider inner doorway, a floating label above the outer doorway, and a moulded carved plaque above it, which is much eroded and displays a crested shield-of-arms along with the date 1634. At the first floor, there is a two-light casement window with a raised segmental-headed surround, a small canted bay window to the left with four cusped lights, and a square three-light casement window to the right with a raised surround, along with two similar windows at the first floor. A chimney is located at the left gable.
The wing has a low wide five-light casement window on each floor, with the lower window featuring modern joinery, a doorway to the right beneath a carried-down roof, and a small square window above this. At the rear, the main range has a shallow projection in the centre, which includes a 14th-century style sandstone mullioned window with two cusped lights and a quatrefoil. The wing has modern three-light casements with rendered labels and a small two-light stair window on each floor to the right.
Inside, the farmhouse features large chamfered beams on both floors of both parts, although the interior has been altered otherwise.
