Description
Seed House Farmhouse is a farmhouse, probably built in the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of red sandstone with lighter stone dressings and features a slate roof with gable chimneys. The side and rear walls are pebble-dashed. The building has a two-bay baffle-entry plan and stands two storeys tall.
At the right end, there is a two-storey porch that includes kneelers at the gable, an open doorcase made of exceptionally large stone blocks, a dripmould, and a first-floor two-light window (formerly mullioned) beneath a hoodmould. The original plank door is still in place. There are two double-chamfered stone mullion windows on each floor, with three lights in the first bay and four lights in the second bay, all lacking mullions. The windows at the rear were also originally mullioned.
Inside, the farmhouse features a good quarter-turn staircase from the late 17th or early 18th century. The stop-chamfered bridging beams and secondary beams are present on both floors, with some being cyma stopped. The ceiling joists and some door lintels are also chamfered and stopped. The first-floor partitions are timber-framed with clamstaff and daub infill.
