Description

Auchinleck is a 2-storey L-plan farmhouse built around 1863, featuring Baronial details. The structure is made of whin rubble, squared and snecked on the south and east elevations, with finely droved red sandstone dressings, raised margins with tabs, and long and short quoins.

On the south elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a tall 2-stage circular stair tower and a 2-storey gabled porch located in the re-entrant angle formed by the gable that advances to the left. The stair tower is slightly advanced to the left and breaks the eaves. It has a small window on the southwest side at ground level and stair windows on both stages facing southeast. A string course steps over the upper stage window, and there are three decorative cannon spouts above. The eaves cornice leads to a conical roof topped with a spiked finial. The porch, clasped to the right, features a modern door and a small first-floor window facing south, with a moulded panel inscribed "G A D 1863" between them. There is a window to the right and a blind slit to the left at ground level leading to the gabled east return, with a window at the first floor.

The advanced gable to the left has a window to the right at ground level and another to the left at the first floor, along with a blind slit to the left at ground level and to the right at the first floor, and a blind narrow opening in the gablehead. A bipartite window is located at ground level, with a window above it in the bay to the right.

On the east elevation, there is a window to the right at ground level and another to the left at the first floor, with a blind slit to the left at ground level and to the right at the first floor, plus a blind narrow opening in the gablehead.

The west elevation features a gable to the left with a window at the center at ground level, a window to the left, and a blind slit to the right at the first floor, along with a blind narrow opening in the gablehead. There are windows at both ground and first floors to the right, and a single-storey wing is attached to the left.

The north elevation includes a 2-light window at the first floor in a gabled bay at the center, with a window to the left of center at ground level. A single-storey gabled wing is attached to the right, featuring a small window in the gablehead facing north, a window to the left, a blocked door at the center, and a low boarded opening to the right facing east. There are also a window and door to the right, and a blocked door to the left facing west.

The farmhouse has plate glass glazing in sash and case windows, with all gables crowstepped. The principal gables to the north, south, east, and west have banded and corniced gablehead stacks, and the roof is covered with graded grey slates, featuring octagonal cans.
