Description
Garden Cottage, built in 1826, is located at the southeast corner of an adjoining walled garden. This single-storey and attic cottage features three bays and is constructed of rubble, with the east and west elevations painted.
The east elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a piended open timber porch at the center, leading to a panelled door with a letterbox fanlight above it. There is a small raised plaque dated "1826" positioned above the door. Windows are located in the outer bays, and a gabled dormer window is situated above the center bay. To the left, there is a slightly recessed lean-to with a door to the right and a window. The lean-to cants to the right and includes a door, with a garden wall running north adjacent to it.
On the west elevation, which faces the garden, there is a central door flanked by windows in the outer bays. Above these outer bays are two-light gabled dormer windows. Similar to the east side, there is a slightly recessed lean-to to the left with a door to the right, and an extension of the lean-to to the right that includes a window and a door to the north, alongside a garden wall running west.
Both the north and south elevations are blank above the adjoining lean-tos. The cottage features plate glass glazing in sash and case windows, while the dormer windows have small-pane glazing. The roof is finished with graded grey slates, and red sandstone coped skews and gablehead stacks are present on the north and south sides.
The adjoining walled garden is enclosed by a rubble wall topped with red sandstone flat-coping and includes three doors.
