Description

The Bank of Scotland, located at 81-83 High Street in Lockerbie, was built around 1900. This three-storey bank features a Renaissance-style design with ornamental details and a twin-gabled, tall narrow street elevation. The exterior is made of polished red ashlar stone.

The ground floor is pilastered and includes a wide depressed-arched central opening, which has modern glazing. Above this opening is an elongated swan neck detail adorned with a cornucopia. To the left of the central opening is a recessed door, while the corresponding opening on the right was originally also a door.

The first floor has canted windows with multi-paned upper sashes. The top windows have had their mullions removed and now feature modern glazing, all set within recessed tall panels. Urns are positioned at the foot of the skews, which are elevated above tall shafts. The roof is slated but is concealed from view from the street.
