Description

Built 1874-5. Well-detailed rectangular-plan gothic church

with good square tower at SE corner with spire. Red ashlar

(both snecked and polished) with polychrome arches. Tower

has 2 lower stages with plate-traceried ground floor

windows, diagonal buttresses; off-set 3rd (belfry) stage is

broached to support 8-sided lucarned tall spire. Double

doorway with nook-shafts, gablets over, with quatrefoils

rose window at gallery level. Plate-traceried windows to

flanks; vestry at NE; slate roofs.

Interior: organ tubes retained on N gable but organ

replaced by altar. Gallery at S has elaborate panelled front

and is supported on pair cast-iron columns. Original pews

mostly retained.
