Description
This early 19th century cottage was raised a storey around 1840 or 1850. It is two storeys high with a sunk basement and has three bays. The exterior features stugged red ashlar with contrasting painted margins and an Ionic-columned central doorpiece, which includes a panelled door with a fanlight. There are band courses at the levels where the former cottage lintels were located. One window has modern glazing, while the rest are sashes with a 12-pane glazing pattern. The slate roof is piended at the south and has a skewed north gable. The south elevation is asymmetrical and has been doubled in width to form No 39 English Street.
