Description
Durhamhill is a circa 1820 house built for the Reverend David Lamont. It is a three-storey, three-bay symmetrical building. The walls are modern roughcast, with rusticated quoins and polished raised margins. A Roman-Doric column arrangement supports a pediment over a tripartite doorpiece. All windows are tripartite, with four panes of glass to the ground and first floors, and small-pane glazing to the second floor. A moulded eaves cornice runs around the house. The rear elevation features sash and case windows with small-pane glazing. The roofs are tall and hipped, covered with slate.
Flanking the house are symmetrical, detached, single-storey and attic rubble-built steading buildings. These also have rusticated quoins and polished margins. A central tall, round-arched cart entrance, featuring an oculus above, is flanked by doors; most of these openings are now blocked. The steading to the west is linked to the main house by a curved coped rubble wall, painted.
The village of Kirkpatrick-Durham was largely founded by Reverend David Lamont around 1785. Durhamhill is notable for the proportions of the farmhouse and the use of tripartite windows on all floors.
