Description
Kilmichael is a building located on Abercromby Road in Castle Douglas, likely dating from the late 17th to early 18th century, and it occupies a much older site. The rectangular house is now in a state of decay and is partly used as a garage, which has a wide vehicle access created at the ground level.
The exterior features rubble walling with a battered boulder basecourse, and some quoins made of squared whinstone. The openings have red sandstone margins, with a 45-degree chamfer at the ground left and center. The original doorway is located on the first floor and has a relieving arch above it. Other first-floor windows have been enlarged, likely during the 19th century. On the ground right, the wide vehicle access has brick jambs and a timber lintel.
The rear elevation is also made of rubble, with sandstone skews and slate roofs. The interior has been significantly altered, and the flooring is in a dangerous condition.
