Description
The Balmoral Hotel, located on High Street in Moffat, consists of two originally separate buildings. The southern part dates back to the mid-18th century and is three stories tall with five bays. It features a rendered exterior with painted ashlar dressings and rusticated quoins. The central entrance has a 19th-century porch, and all windows are framed with moulded architraves, equipped with modern shutters. The building has an eaves band and cornice, along with end and ridge stacks, and straight skews that have scrolled skewputts.
The northern building, constructed in the early 19th century, is two stories with an attic and has a three-bay front. Its exterior is made of painted rubble and includes a flattened, semi-elliptically arched pend at the south. The ground floor windows have been altered, and there is a band course between the ground and first floors. The first floor features three windows with modern shutters, and there are two flat-roofed dormers. The roof is slated.
