Description

The Annandale Hotel, located on High Street in Moffat, dates back to the mid-18th century and has undergone later alterations. It is a three-storey building with a basement and attic, featuring a five-bay symmetrical facade. The exterior is constructed of painted coursed whinstone with ashlar dressings. There are steps leading to the central entrance, which is adorned with an early 19th-century paired Doric columned doorpiece and a modern canopy. All windows are set within moulded architraves, with a cill course at the first floor, and an eaves course and cornice above. The gabled roof is slated, with straight skews and scrolled skewputts, along with end stacks and three late 19th-century bipartite piended dormers. The interior has been modernised. At the rear, there are two wings flanking a courtyard; the southern wing features a Doric pilastered doorpiece leading to a three-storey, three-bay house, while the northern wing is three storeys high with four bays and a lower extension to the west. The first floor includes modified Venetian windows.
