2 South Street, Garlieston

2 South Street in Garlieston is an early 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay house. It is constructed of painted rubble with painted quoins and contrasting raised margins. The front of the house is symmetrical, featuring a central doorway with a panelled door. The windows are all single light, sash and case style, with 12-pane glazing. At the rear, there is a lower two-storey projecting bay made of painted rubble, topped with a cat-slide roof. The house has end skews and corniced end stacks with thackstanes and octagonal cans, all under graded slate roofs. The property also features good cast-iron rainwater goods. Behind the house, rubble garden walls connect to a rectangular two-storey outbuilding, which was formerly a smithy. This outbuilding has a cat-slide roof and is made of painted rubble, with door openings widened at ground level and a first-floor loft door in the gable wall. It includes two small windows on the first floor, sandstone end skews, coped end stacks, and a graded slate roof.
