55-56 High Street, South Queensferry

55-56 High Street in South Queensferry is an 18th-century building that features two storeys and an attic, arranged in a three-bay L-plan. The exterior is finished in painted harl with margins and has a raised cill at 55 High Street, along with a band course.

On the south elevation, the principal entrance includes an architraved doorpiece with pilasters in the right bay, another architraved doorpiece in the centre, and a shop window in the left bay. The first floor displays a regular pattern of windows, with additional windows located in the roof.

The west elevation has single windows in the right bay of the gable end and in the far left bay. The north elevation features a single window in the left bay, central windows in the west wing, a modern attic extension, and a rubble lean-to in the re-entrant angle. The east elevation has a single window in the left bay at ground level.

The building is fitted with timber sash and case windows that exhibit a variety of astragal patterns. It has a grey slate roof with straight stone skews and skewputts, and tall, coped stacks at the gableheads.
