Description

8 and 9/3 East Terrace, located on High Street in South Queensferry, are buildings from the later 18th century with 19th century additions. The lintel at No. 8 is incised with "17 WT/AD 72". The buildings feature harled exteriors with painted margins, a base course, and raised cills at the first floor. No. 8 is two storeys with an attic, while No. 9 is two storeys with a mansard attic.

On the north elevation, No. 8 has a panelled door in the right bay and a shop window with a modern iron shutter in the left bay at ground level, along with a single window above on the first floor. There is also a single window to the far left at the first floor and a tall narrow attic addition above with a single window and timber margins. Velfac windows are present in the roof. No. 9 has a door to a common stair at the far right, two small windows in the right bay, a single window above on the first floor, and another single window in a steep gablet above.

The east elevation is adjoining to another building. The south elevation features a single window at ground level for No. 8, with a lintel incised "EL 1631 ID", and a large dormer addition with a three-light window above. There is a small stained glass window in the attic addition, along with a modern timber extension over the common stair. No. 9 has a single window at the first floor, a dormer window with flanking stacks above, and a stained glass dormer facing east, along with shed extensions.

The west elevation is also adjoining to another building. No. 8 has modern glazing, while No. 9 features 4-pane sash and case windows at the ground floor and 12-pane windows at the upper floors. The roof of No. 8 is pantiled with slate eaves, while No. 9 has a slate roof with a steep pitched gablet that includes fanciful bargeboards and brackets. The rear extension has both pantile and slate roofing, and there are tall harled stacks at the left gablehead and tall stacks at the rear. The interior was not seen in 2000.
